FAQ

How would you describe your approach?

Honest. Genuine. Science/fact-based. Education focused. Dedicated. Thorough. Flexible and adaptable – I am focused on how you feel and respond to various stimulus, movements and programme designs.

I want to see you succeed and feel better in yourself, so I will go above and beyond to help you. Any medical condition you may have is thoroughly researched by myself beforehand, to ensure I put together a wholly appropriate and safe exercise and lifestyle programme.  I specialise in strength and resistance training, as having muscle mass and strength is crucial to a longer, healthier life.

What will my programme look like?

Each programme is completely bespoke, so this depends on the client and their goals. For example, one programme may be entirely based around strength and resistance training for someone who wants to prevent future bodily aches, pains and injuries, as well as build muscle and look leaner.

Whereas another client may desire to lose body fat and develop their cardiovascular fitness. This may mean I prescribe a programme focused around functional training, HIIT and strength training.

Generally, programmes will be centred around strength training because of it’s unparalleled benefits for the body, ageing and health.

You can see sample programmes here.

Do you have any sample programmes I can look at?

Each programme is entirely bespoke to every client. However, you can see example training plans here, written for hypothetical clients but that are designed to be realistic and show you the level of detail I take into account for each client.

What I want is not on your services page. What should I do?

Ideally, clients will choose to purchase a package as these have been specially designed to be as impactful as possible to my clients. It takes at least a month to start building a habit.

If you do have a more specific or unique request, please do get in touch as I'd love to see what I can do for you. I enjoy researching for my clients where necessary. You can reach out here.

On my Services & Pricing page I have a document highlighting a wealth of extra services I provide, which may be helpful, but it's not exhaustive. This includes online coaching; talks and seminars; corporate fitness classes; writing programmes for your in-gym sessions etc.

Why do you not have client before & after photos?

I think before and after photos can be a very powerful tool to judge progress, especially when you see yourself every day and may become numb to the progress you've made. Would having images like this sell my services well? Yes. However, I think that these are best kept private and my clients' bodies are not used as a marketing tool (unless they'd like to share their progress publically!)

I am extremely respectful of my clients' privacy and a lot of the people that work with me are private individuals that do not want their face and body plastered online. Also, the majority of my clients' value progress that isn't always linked to aesthetics; E.g. better sleep; better digestion; better lifts; better mobility and movement; better energy.

Please read my testimonials and you can see extra feedback I've received on my clients' progress on my socials. Hopefully this gives you a good sense of me, how I work and the success I bring about for my clients.

How quickly will I see results?

I understand that progress takes time… especially when I do not endorse fads, yo-yo diets and extreme methods. This is why all my packages are on a 12 week cycle – so you can give yourself enough time to see true results and feel great. Though, of course, the majority of my clients stay on and continue sessions year-round for optimal benefits.

Especially for fat loss and muscle growth, your diet is absolutely key – in fact, it’s 80% of the work. You will always receive fact-based nutrition and dietary advice with every programme.

I cannot guarantee results as outcomes will differ from individual to individual, and there is a certain amount of responsibility that falls with the client to make the change they desire.

Do you write meal plans?

On the whole, I do not write meal plans and there is a good reason for this.

Meal plans may be easier for a client in the short term, but they mean the recipient does not learn anything. If I provide my clients a meal plan with set recipes… what do they do when they're out with friends at a restaurant? When they're sick of the recipes provided? When they're in front of a buffet, feeling overwhelmed with choices? When they're in a supermarket trying to figure out what to buy?

My approach is fully guided by the principles of education. I want clients to work with me and, as a result, understand more about nutrition and the facts about food, how to fuel their body properly and how to navigate food in all situations.

Do I need to change my diet?

This depends on your goals, but in almost every case, yes! I provide detailed advice on food shopping, label reading, volume eating, portion control, menu reading and various other weight-loss tactics. For weight loss, diet is 80% of the work, so the work begins in the kitchen; if you want to get great results you have to eat healthily (calorically balanced) and appropriately. If you are going to workout and not eat healthily 80% of the time, you are not going to see the results you’re probably hoping for.

My focus with nutrition in particular is around education. This is why I do not provide cookie-cutter meal plans like some PTs may do. I want you to learn more about food and nutrition from working with me, so you absorb this information and translate this to your life and do with it what you wish.

Some clients want to see me to just move more, and that’s absolutely fine and still a perfectly valid reason to have a PT.

What do I need to commit to you?

You just need to bring discipline, consistency and a positive attitude, particularly around change and personal challenge. I’ll do the rest!

Where is the best space to do the sessions?

Wherever you’re comfortable, and wherever there is a good amount of floor space. A living room/lounge or an outbuilding is usually best. We can always move a coffee table to the side etc. if needed.

Can you do personal training sessions with my children?

I have worked and run interactive sessions with children and young people for 7 years, and I believe strongly in the power of exercise for young people's mental and physical health, resilience and behaviour. I would be a great fit for training your child!

Please reach out if you wish for me to train your child, or yourself and your child. Please be aware, under 18s should be accompanied by an adult.

I am fully DBS checked and safeguarding trained.

Can I do sessions with you if I have an injury, or I’ve just had surgery?

You must seek a physio/doctor’s approval before beginning sessions. You will fill out a questionnaire before starting sessions, in order for me to make sure you’re safe to train and that you consent.
I am used to working with clients with previous injuries which have left them with niggles. I am skilled at working around these while also working to strengthen the weak point to help improve the injury in the long run. Please note however I am not a qualified physiotherapist.

Can I do sessions with you if I am pregnant, or just had a baby?

It's usually a good idea to wait until after your 6-week postnatal check before you start any high-impact or intensity exercise. If you exercised regularly before giving birth and you feel fit and well, you may be able to start earlier. It is best to check with a doctor before beginning exercise again.

If you are pregnant, or have just given birth, you should only work with a trainer who has an extra qualification in pre and post natal exercise. I (at this stage) do not hold an extra qualification, and therefore cannot train a pregnant woman, or a woman who has not yet been cleared during their postnatal check.

How many days a week can I train with you?

I provide three packages – Silver, Gold and Platinum. Silver is 1 day per week; Gold is 2; Platinum is 3. See here for more information. All packages can be purchased on a rolling basis. Longer programmes or programmes with more sessions a week are available on request.

Pay as you go personal training sessions can be purchased if this is more suitable for you.

What if I can’t make a session I’ve paid for?

That’s ok – life happens! A session can be rolled over if needed. For example, if you’re on the Silver package and can’t make one session, one week you will have 1 session, the third week you’ll have 2.

Or, the missed session can be plugged onto the end of the programme (so it's extended), but this does prevent me taking on clients later in the year who want the same slot, so this option may be avoided especially if you have a popular time/day slot. Please see the terms & conditions for more detail. Either way, we will always work together to find the best solution.

If the problem persists throughout the programme, we will ensure we have an honest conversation about why and what I can do to try and support you.

What if I want to cancel mid-contract?

You can stop the sessions if you wish, but once you’ve paid for the programme, this is non-refundable. Please see the terms & conditions for more detail.
